NOVEMBER marks the return of the Railway Studies and Modellers Show in Newton Abbot.
The Railway Studies Collection’s third, biennial show takes place on Saturday, November 8 at the Passmore Edwards Centre, home of Newton Abbot Library.
The much-anticipated event, which runs from 10am to 4pm, offers an unforgettable day out for enthusiasts, newcomers to the world of railways and families alike.
Entry is by donation, with a suggested contribution of £5, which directly supports the preservation and continued development of the collection, which comprises books, photographs, original blue-prints, track plans, timetables and much more besides.
This year’s show promises to be the best yet, with an array of model railway layouts in gauges H0, OO, and Electric Garden Gauge - showcasing meticulous craftsmanship, detailed local scenery and intricate miniatures.
‘The event will take place throughout the library which includes the first floor, with easy access via the lift or stairs’, say organisers.
‘We are just a 20-minute walk from Newton Abbot railway station, a 5-minute walk from the bus station, and there is ample paid parking available nearby.
‘Whether you're a lifelong rail enthusiast or simply looking for a unique and fun-filled day out, the Railway Studies and Modellers Show promises to be an incredible experience’, they added.
The Friends of the Railway Studies Collection have put together a history of rail transport display, together with a curated photo exhibition, including a selection of never-before-seen items from the collection, especially for the 2025 show.
There will be a range of activities for children and families throughout the day, including a railway-themed Story Time, Lego Club, crafts and a railway-themed trail around the library, as well as stalls offering model kits, railway memorabilia, books and hobbyist supplies.
And if it all gets too much, fear not.
Take a break at The Owl and the Pussycat Coffee House, Newton Abbot Library’s on-site café.
