The plight of terminally-ill Megan Sutton's family – facing eviction from their Newton Abbot home – sparked a heavy response on our website.

Grahame Starkie, of Newton Abbot, said: 'I spoke personally to Rendells on Saturday asking for them to intervene or offer alternative accomodation and the attitude of their telephone representative appeared to be totally uncaring for this family.

'Shame on you and the landlord in question!'

In a second post, he said: 'It is quite unbelievable that the landlord and rental agency are behaving in this way to Richard, Lauren, and their precious daughter, Megan. We have grown very close to this lovely family over the past few months, as, like them, we have had to face the very real and distressing news that one of our children has leukaemia.

'Rendells and the landlord in question should hang their heads in shame!'

Bob Hammett, of Somerset: 'Such actions by the landlord are indefensible as is the apparent rejection of any responsibility by Rendells. Typical of so many firms who engage in this business who seek only to maximise their profits and deny any moral claims.

'Rendells must have contacts who could help, or properties on their books of vendors who might be prepared to help. Have they contacted anyone to ask?'

Pete F, of Newton Abbot: 'The heartlessness of this action is truly beyond words. A vulnerable and shattered family forced out of their home because they don't meet the landlord's standards. Capitalism at its ugliest and most heartless, hang your head in shame.

'Add that to your portfolio Mr Landlord.'

JonD, of Essex: 'I've read the article twice and still can't believe the heartlessness of the landlord in this case. As his/her agent Rendells should cancel their agreement with him/her and hang their heads in shame that it has come to this.'

Leigh E, of Devon: 'So many people dipped into their pockets to help this delightful family when news of their awful plight became common knowlege. So how a landlord and his agent can be so heartless is beyond belief...

'My family's association with Rendells goes back generations in both property and antiques but I, for one, will never deal with them again.'

Dave R, of Paignton: 'This is a total disgrace, this family are such a loving family and Megan the dearest little girl you could ever wish to meet.

'This landlord should be flogged in public for what he is doing and one only hopes he gets what he fully deserves in life.'

nigel bell, of kingsteigntion: 'I would be happy to offer accommodation free of charge from Jan until March to help this family.

'I have a two bedroom self-contained apartment I could offer.

kind regards – Nigel Bell Sampsons farm Hotel.'
