THEY made it! Poundsgate rower Tom Rainey and Lawrence Walters rowed into Salcombe Harbour on Tuesday – and into the record books as the youngest pair to row the North Atlantic.
Accompanied by a flotilla of hundreds of boats the triumphant duo ended their 3,767 nautical mile journey.
They left New York on May 3 and after hurricanes, capsizes and huge waves the brave pair were reunited with their families and friends.
After a celebratory breakfast with his family – and a shave – Rainey said on Wednesday morning: ‘It hasn’t hit home yet, and just feels like I’ve been away on a holiday. But my back is really hurting from being crashed around in the boat.
‘Coming into Salcombe was insane and amazing to see so many boats.
