BACK in 2000 it was revealed that Teignmouth had its very own Hollywood superstar.

Layla Jade was one of the top performers in the adult movie industry – who was mobbed by fans and driven to personal appearances in a stretch limo.

‘But back in Teignmouth it is a bit different. There she can walk the streets virtually unrecognised,’ said an article at the time.

‘Instead of erotic film sets she is busy with the housework. On come the Marigolds as piles of washing up have to be ploughed through in the kitchen, and out comes the Hoover to run across the carpets.

‘We have often thought of producing a spoof movie called Layla at home. Instead of the expected hot scenes it would just show me doing the housework,’ joked the petite and tanned 19-year-old who has starred in more than 140 hardcore films.

‘Los Angeles is great, but it is a very false world, especially in the movie trade. You are pampered all the time and people are very flattering.

‘It is a reality shock to come back to Teignmouth. I would never live permanently in LA because it so easy to get big headed.

‘I was born and bred in Teignmouth and it brings you down to earth with a jolt, which is good.

‘Most of my friends know what I do and are fine about it. I don’t go out of my way to advertise my job, but will tell people if they ask.

‘When I’m home we don’t go out clubbing – I’ve done all that. Usually it is a quiet meal in a restaurant and home early to bed’

Layla went to Inverteign and Hazeldown primary schools and the local community college, but admits that ‘porn actress’ was not one of the options on the career list.

‘I saw one of my teachers recently and he was a bit shocked when I told him what line I was in.

‘I always fancied becoming a sex actress from an early age. But contrary to what people think I have not been that promiscuous, if you don’t count the movies which is just a job.’

It is hard to comprehend in this country just how popular Layla is in the States.

She is often on American TV and radio shows, takes part in promotional tours and is putting her writing talents to use by penning articles for top shelf magazines..

In America her sweet good looks and English accent go down a storm with fans.

Layla has plenty of other work that keeps her busy, including her own column in Galaxy magazine, glamour shots in lads mags such as Front, Loaded and GQ, and appearances on on the Fantasy TV channel.

She also featured standing naked in front of one of the Welcome to Teignmouth road signs, which did not go down well with some of the councillors! But it certainly brought the resort plenty of publicity.

She was one of the stars making an appearance at the Erotica Show at London’s Olympia, and recently was spread over a whole page of the Sunday Sport, which charted her rise to the top, and gave another publicity boost to her home town.
