THE rain poured but thousands braved the elements throughout the district to pay their respects at Remembrance Day Sunday services and wreath laying ceremonies.

Crowds gathered around the Newton Abbot war memorial for a service led by the town's Royal British Legion padre, the Rev Bruce Porter.

Wreaths were laid by the mayor of Newton Abbot, Cllr Carol Bunday, the chairman of Teignbridge Council, Cllr Stephen Purser, and representatives of uniformed organisations, with hymns accompanied by the Newton Abbot Salvation Army Band, with The Last Post and Reveille sounded, and the exhortation read by Newton Abbot RBL branch president, Henry Hill.<
