A second world war veteran was robbed of £50 as she made her way home from Sunday's remembrance service. Betty Wood, 85, a former ambulance driver with the RAFC, withdrew £50 from LloydsTSB, Wellington Street, at 12.20pm. She tucked the cash in three £10 notes and one £20 into her purse and hung her handbag on the handle of her mobility scooter as she rode the short distance to her home at Regency Apartments, The Triangle. But when she went to check her receipt later that afternoon, she found that the cash had gone. Mrs Wood said: 'Someone must have dipped their hand in and taken it. I cannot believe that someone would stoop so low as to steal from someone on a mobility scooter, 'I am absolutely disgusted. It was probably taken for drink or drugs and I would have rather have given that money to charity,' she said. Mrs Wood fell victim of a card-cloning scam two years ago when £1,000 was taken from her account. She was refunded in full after the bank noticed cash being withdrawn from as far afield ass Leicester. But this incident has left Mrs Wood wary. 'I will not be using a cash machine again, I will go into the bank instead,' she said. 'I just hope that this is a lesson to people to ensure they keep their purses out of reach,' she said.
