COUNCILLORS wanting to create a community and civic centre in Kingsteignton have been encouraged by support from residents.

Five have written to the council backing the idea of the town council buying the now redundant Devon County Council community resource centre in Greenhill Way.

Jane Baker, of Chudleigh Road, described it as a 'opportunity not to be missed'.

Mayor Cllr Keith Howard said he was encouraged by the support for their idea which would see the centre turned into new council offices, space for small businesses, a museum which the town does not currently have, new library, satellite health centre, studios and rehearsal space.
