AN angry crowd of at least 130 people has demanded that Chudleigh Town Council fights plans for a ‘carbuncle’ development in The Square.

Many are furious that they have only recently been made aware of the project when council members were approached more than a year ago, writes Nigel canham.

The town hall was filled to overflowing on Wednesday night for a meeting of the planning committee. Many residents were left outside complaining they could not get in.

They wanted to express horror at the thought of building seven homes and a shop on the last open space in the town centre.

The site once housed a pub and other properties but they were demolished half a century ago.
