POLICE are to step up speed checks on a Kingsteignton road in response to claims by residents that motorists are driving at dangerous speeds.

Householders living along Sandygate say drivers are travelling at increasing and excessive speeds and claim many are disregarding the 30mph limit.

They are calling for speeding motorists to be prosecuted and for traffic calming measures to be introduced.

Resident Louise Cook, who lives at Higher Sandygate, has spearheaded the campaign.

She believes cars regularly travel at speeds of between 40mph and 50mph along the road and says that with the number of parked cars, even the 30mph limit is too high.
