WHEN road surfacers came across parked cars in a Teignmouth street they simply laid asphalt around them.

Large patches were left where the vehicles were parked in Higher Brimley Road, with residents claiming it was 'a farce'.

Former Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross, who lives there, claimed not enough notice had been given to people to move their cars before work started.

'Some residents may be away on two weeks holiday. I only saw the rather tatty signs a week before.

'In London they give at least three weeks notice, and the police or the council ensure cars are moved.'

Mr Younger-Ross also complained about the quality of work, describing it as 'questionable'.

'Where the county council had cleared the granite gutters, the new edge is now very rough. It would have been easy to smooth when the asphalt when hot, but very difficult now it is set.
