RECKLESS vandals have caused £3,000 damage to a Peugeot 206 convertible, parked in Coronation Avenue, Dawlish, by pouring a corrosive liquid over the bonnet of the car.

This occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning and has left the owner, Christine Hunt, distraught and her husband, Lee, extremely angry.

'I believe that this car has been targeted,' he said. 'If it had been malicious damage they would have gone across all of the other parked cars.'

Residents have expressed concern that this might happen again and Mr Hunt has said that if anyone can provide any information that leads to a conviction then he will offer a substantial cash award.

'It has caused a lot of hassle. I was working in Southampton at the time and when my wife found it, she was so distraught, I had to drive all the way back because she was so upset.

'Who would do something like this? It's got to be the scum of the earth, what have they benefited from it? – Absolutely nothing.'

Mrs Hunt was close to tears on talking about the car, has been having trouble sleeping at night and her husband has now installed CCTV and a drive.

'I've put up two cameras and a spotlight and am preparing the ground to put a drive in,' said Mr Hunt. 'All of it at an extra cost to me.'

The corrosive liquid that was poured on the car has stripped the paint off the front of the bonnet, melted the lights and even eaten through the rivets holding on the bumper.

Mrs Hunt said: 'This is my dream car, you just don't expect people to do this, it breaks my heart. I've only had the car for five months and have looked after it so well, have been so proud of it and then this happens. I can't understand why anyone would do this. I've done nothing to anybody and it feels like they have attacked me.'
