I write with reference to the Comment column (MDA, November 21) in connection with Fred Amery.
I do feel your article should have been front page news and not banished to page eight because, as you state, society has completely let down Frederick George Amery.
Your comments exactly hit the nail on the head. Society cannot now place him in somewhere that is safe for him as legislation states that 'care in the community' is best.
You are correct that old-fashioned community life has disappeared in many places with the influx of wealthy incomers with their 4x4s who have no real knowledge of village life and who often do not wish to integrate with the real locals.
Please please highlight his plight as this may help ensure that Langdon Hospital, where I am sure he would feel safe and secure, accepts him.
