SHALDON rescue boat helmsman Roy Lightfoot is taking a back seat after 15 years of dedicated service. Mr Lightfoot has been on hand every weekend for Shaldon Sailing Club, but now wants to spend a bit of time on the water on his own boat. It means that the club has vacancy for a rescue boat helmsman every Sunday and an occasional Saturday during dinghy sailing races. Shaldon Sailing Club is one of England's oldest sailing clubs and holds dinghy races between April and September. During them, at least one rescue boat has to be in attendance. Club commodore Gil Gill said: 'Roy now has his own boat and he is keen to get more use out of it, so he has decided to take a back seat. 'Shaldon Sailing Club would like to thank him for his dedicated service over the last 15 years. He will be hard to replace.' To find out more, contact Mr Gill on 01626 779795.
