BUCKFASTLEIGH and Kenton are the first places in Teignbridge to benefit from a new pop-up rural skip service.

Teignbridge Council is working with Coastal Recycling to bring the service to towns and villages across the district until February 2018.

The facility will give residents without access to a permanent recycling centre the chance to easily recycle certain materials and items locally from bulky household waste to scrap metal and wood.

Temporary collection containers will be set up on Saturdays offering a one-day recycling service at 35 sites from Shaldon to Widecombe in the Moor.

Residents will find staff on hand to help with their waste and recycling to ensure maximum levels of recycling and reuse are achieved.

Richard Marsh, commercial director of Coastal Recycling said: ‘We’re really pleased to be working with Teignbridge Council to deliver this service.

‘We want to make it easier for people to thoughtfully dispose of their waste materials and drive up recycling levels in the area.’

The first services were held in Kenton and Buckfastleigh receiving nearly 11 tonnes of recycling and waste material across the two sites.

Advance sorting and processing facilities meant that 70 per cent of the material was recycled.
