Another element of the former Seale-Hayne Agricultural College, Newton Abbot, has gone. Auctioneer Stags auctioned the college's dairy herd on Wednesday at Newton Abbot. top price was 1,300 guineas for an autumn calving heifer by Summershade Igniter. The animal was bought by Mr Hurford, of Axminster, and in all seven lots made 1,000 guineas or more. Overall averages: 81 sound cows £773.25; 13 in-calf heifers £726.92; 15 bulling heifers £449.40; 24 hiefer calves £309.83. The parlour and dairy equipment grossed £12,800. A sale of the farm's machinery and pig equipment will take place in September. The sale was conducted on behalf of the University of Plymouth, which owns the college premises.
