MEMBERS of the public paid their respects to those who died in world conflict, when they lined the streets of Dawlish, on Sunday, to watch the Lympstone band and members of the Royal British Legion lead representatives from a wide range of local organisations to the war memorial outside St Gregory's Church.

The branch president, Dennis Jones, the mayor of Dawlish, Cllr Bill Forrow, and the mayoress, Angela Webb, took the salute.

Groups and individuals, ranging from the very young to veterans of the second world war, laid wreaths in memory of those who had given their lives in service to their country.

Those gathered listened to a sermon by the RBL chaplain, canon Robin Murch, who spoke of the memorial services being held around the world, including in Iraq, in respect of the those killed in past wars, to those lost in current conflicts.

The rain held off until the church service, conducted by the vicar of Dawlish, Rev Jerry Bird, was completed

A subsequent raffle, held at the RBL headquarters, of items donated by local businesses and RBL members, raised a total of £250 for the Poppy Appeal.
