THE Teignmouth area escaped relatively lightly from the havoc wreaked by the great weekend storm elsewhere.

But big waves pounding the seafront scoured away a lot of sand, and the beach level dropped several feet.

The slipway to the beach at the Point and the piling foundations were left exposed. There was similar erosion at Shaldon beach.
