SCOUTS in Dawlish are set to get a new roof on their hut thanks to a successful funding bid.

The £31,500 has been awarded to the 1st Dawlish Scout group to replace the roof of Seabourne Hall hut from Viridor Credits.

But, Scout leaders now have 30 days to fund their contribution of £3,150 so the work can go ahead.

The 1st Dawlish Scouts have been going for 28 years and the group is proving even more popular with growing numbers.

Scout spokesman Anne Barnes said: ‘This is the final piece of the jigsaw to the Huthub project that was started several years ago, a wonderful journey that  has enabled us to update the security, access and electrics within the hut and replace the kitchen and toilet facilities.

‘Seaborne Hall is now fit for purpose for the next 30 years of scouting.

‘It is particularly poignant that John Seaborne, who the hall is named after, has recently passed away and so did not hear of this good news.

‘He became re-acquainted with the scout group during the launch of Huthut and we were very sorry to hear of his passing.

‘His name will live on within the group however, as arrangements are being put in place with the help of John’s family and Dawlish Rotary Club for an annual ‘John Seaborne Community Cup’ to be awarded to a member of the scout group who has shown ‘community spirit’ in the year.’

Anne said the group is thriving and continuing to grow but they are keen to encourage new adults to help

Everyone in the group is supported and training will be given whether they are working with the young people or on the management team.

Seaborne Hall is also available for private hire to individuals and companies. Anyone who would like to donate can contact Anne as [email protected]
