THE new Mayor of Dawlish has been officially elected for the coming year.

Cllr Anthony James will take on the role and was formally presented with the chain of office by retiring Mayor Cllr Lin Goodman-Bradbury at Dawlish Town Council’s annual meeting.

Cllr Lynda Littlewood was elected to serve as Deputy Mayor.

Cllr James announced his mayoral charities for the year will be AIMS, Assist Teignbridge and The Strand Centre.

Also at the meeting, Cllr Goodman-Bradbury presented her three nominated charities with £330 each from money raised during her year in office.

Cheques were presented to Dawlish Against Plastic, The Strand Centre and Talking Newspapers.

Her final duty in her year in office was to present the Dawlish Community Awards.

The youth award went to Maizie Brock for her contributions to various charitiy events and her dedication to volunteering on Friday evenings at junior sessions; planning, executing and encouraging participation in events.

The individual adult award was given to Michael Butterfield for his contribution to keeping Dawlish clean and well kept with his cheery demeanour.

Dawlish Celebrates Carnival Committee won the organisation award for providing a week of entertainment for visitors and locals and continuing this year despite work by South West Water. \
