Children at First Steps Nursery, Decoy Primary School, joined the reception classes at the school to give a seaside-themed concert to their friends and families last month. The children sang traditional songs such as My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean, Bobby Shaftoe and I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside in addition to their favourite songs about pirates, submarines and mermaids. The children in the nursery and reception classes meet each week to enjoy singing and dancing games together. 'As part of our topic on water, the children enjoyed learning many songs with a sea theme,' said Jenny Pigott, nursery teacher and Decoy Foundation Stage Co-ordinator. 'The children enjoyed their singing so much and learnt the words so well, we felt we just had to put on a performance to share their wonderful music-making with parents and families.' Children were invited to go along dressed as their favourite seaside characters including pirates, mermaids, mermen, sharks, fishing folk, beach children, divers, castaways and surfers. A collection was made and will be shared between a local charity and the RNLI.
