Secret filming by an animal rights group has led to the suspension of three workers and possible prosecution at an abattoir in Ashburton.

The action was taken after Animal Aid released footage recorded at Tom Lang Ltd, which, it is alleged, shows animal cruelty.

The group's recordings were handed to the Meat Hygiene Service – an executive agency of the Food Standards Agency.< The owner has made it clear that he will work with the MHS to ensure such cruelty does not occur again.
