A NEWTON Abbot sepsis casualty has said a big ‘thank you’ to paramedics and nursing staff who brought him back from the brink after collapsing just a few hours into 2016.

Ken Johnson, 79, was later told he would have died if his emergency treatment had not been given as quickly as it was after he keeled over at his Hameldown Way flat early on New Year’s Day with septic shock.

It was sepsis that killed one-year-old William Mead, from Cornwall. His death triggered renewed calls this week for a ‘mistakes’ inquiry similar to those made after the sepsis death in 2010 of three-year-old Sam Morrish, from Newton Abbot.

Sam’s parents, Scott and Susanna, have said they’ve been heartbroken that errors made over their son’s death have not been learned since the family tragedy six years ago.
