MAY Day dawned with leaden skies and heavy rain. What’s more we are half way through this year’s bank holidays and it’s only the first week in May.
We only get eight public holidays, which is the lowest number among the world’s biggest economies. On the face of it, we could probably do with a couple more.
However, linking these to our national saints’ days, as has been suggested by Jeremy Corbyn, would mean more holidays in March and April. We would finish up with three in April and in 2024 we would get four days off in March. To get a spread of holidays, and a chance of a warm day, we really need to add any extra holidays in June, July, September and October.
But when and why?
