Shaldon beach is to close at the end of next week to repair winter storm damage.

The re-profiling work will see sand and rocks shifted along the beach to rebuild the area in front of Marine Parade.

The beach between the ferry shelter and Marine Parade steps will close between 2pm and 6pm on Thursday May 16 and the entire beach will be shut between 8am and 5pm on Friday May 17.

Some boat owners have been asked to move their vessels to allow the heavy machinery to move sand along the beach.

The Shaldon to Teignmouth ferry will still operate. However, travellers will be asked to remain in the ferry shelter and await an escort down to the ferry while the beach is closed.

In a statement, the Parish Council thanked beach users for their patience and said it ‘will do everything it can to do the work as quickly as possible’.
