THE funeral has taken place of Lucy yates, 89, of Whickham Lodge, Dawlish.
it took place at Dawlish Methodist Church and was followed by cremation at Exeter. The Minister was Miss Verity Phillips.
Born in June 1913, in Birmingham, Mrs yates was one of six children. Her mother died when she was eight years old and she helped bring up her siblings.
She worked in a stock office at Lucas (Birmingham), and met her future husband Frank through the Methodist Church and married in l940.
While having five children, she also looked after her elderly father, moving in l971 to torquay and in l991 to Dawlish, where she made many friends through the methodist Church. She, Frank and daughter June lived in lower Drive.
Widowed in l993, Mrs Yates moved into residential care in l997 and latterly to Whickham Lodge, where she spent many happy hours reading and crocheting blankets for everyone from babies to the eldest resident.
Family mourners were: June Yates and Audrey Yates (daughters); David and Teresa Yates (son and daughter-in-law); Graham Yates and pat Smith (son and partner); Alan and Elsie Yates (son and daughter-in-law); Vivian Yates (daughter-in-law); Barbara Yates and Ian (grand-daughter and boyfriend); Katherine and Rebecca Yates (grand-daughters); Joyce and Brian Roberts (niece and husband) also representing Lillian and George Cook (sister and brother-in-law); Elsie and Jim Barrs (sister-in-law and husband).
Close friends at the funeral included Bonnie Hunter, Val Cockram, Ray and Lily Caseley, Evelyn Lord, and Sid and Kerry Good.
