THE large cargo ship that collided with a Teignmouth fishing boat was probably also involved in a near miss with another vessel on the same evening, it has been revealed.
The 47,000-tonne bulk carrier Alma Pintar is alleged to have run down the crabber Etoile Des Ondes off the Cherbourg peninsula just before Christmas, and continued on its way without stopping.
The small fishing boat turned over. One of the crew, Chris Wadsworth, 21, was washed into the sea, and is believed to have died. The other three on board survived.
