SEVENTY years of showing were celebrated at a traditional village show in Newton Abbot last weekend.

Highweek Village Show ‘s platinum jubilee event took place place last Saturday (July 5) and offered the traditional village show experience with a produce competition, fair games and craft stalls.

Visitors to the exhibition hall were treated to a wonderful display of more than 80 classes of children’s  exhibits plus flowers, fruit and vegetables, home baking and preserves - most of which were auctioned off at the close of the show.

And his year the show returned to the gardens of village residents Mr and Mrs Simmonds at Greenend where further entertainment was on offer including tortoise racing , face-painting and a treasure hunt plus the famous cake stall offering tempting treats.
