Ian Moore, of higher Brimley, Teignmouth, writes:
I noticed that Teignbridge Council have decided to spend £190,000 on 240 new laptops. I am a computer consultant and consider that this sounds very expensive.
If I go on to the internet I can buy an excellent new laptop for less than £300. I wonder what discount would be available for 240 of them.
They could all be purchased for less than £70,000 plus some office software, total £95,000 perhaps.
The functions of the council do not require advanced 'video gaming' computers. Someone is charging double here, or perhaps they want to play the latest video game on the new office computer?
I also note that 17 public toilets are to be axed from the Teignbridge council area at a saving of £155,000 and a further £35,000 next year, making £190,000 in total.
What a coincidence; it's the same amount for the computers.
Does this demonstrate that Teignbridge council is closing public toilets to buy computers?
The person who is responsible for this decision is welcome to telephone me on 0783 7778246 to discuss lower cost computers, and also where I might pee next time I'm in town.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
