TWO years after the Highways Agency removed Ashburton's brown tourist road sign, the town council is still trying to get a replacement, writes Lindsey Sill.
The Highways Agency took away the old one in November 2008 saying it no longer met current guidelines.
In the latest episode of this long-running saga, the council's request for costing information was met with the response that as Ashburton is ineligible anyway, it doesn't need to know how much a sign would cost.
'It's like swimming through treacle,' exclaimed Cllr Jonathan Richards at the last town council meeting.
