It took a huge effort by Sue Moyse, pictured right, to keep her mouth shut at the weekend.
The popular barmaid at Dawlish Royal British Legion Club volunteered to help the club by undergoing a sponsored silence from Saturday night to Sunday night.
Sue, barmaid for more than 20 years at the club, is renowned for her chatability.
But it was the sound of silence that won the day, even though Sue admitted: 'it was very, very hard for me. I couldn't talk to anyone, not even at home. I'm known for my talking and many people thought I'd never get through it.'
Sue's silent sojourn earned her £300, which will go towards funds for disabled toilets at the club.
'There's no way at all I will do it again, ever,' she said.
