A PROLIFIC shoplifter from Dawlish has been jailed for six months after stealing from stores including Poundland.

Harry Norman admitted seven counts of theft from two shops in Teignmouth as well as criminal damage and being drunk and disorderly when he appeared in court.

After the sentencing, police from the Teignmouth and and Dawlish neighbourhood team said they have twice arrested and remanded Norman in the last month.

A spokesman said: ‘We will continue to target those who shoplift locally in Teignmouth and Dawlish.’

Over the last month the Teignmouth Neighbourhood team have twice arrested and remanded a prolific offender, the latest being earlier this week.

Norman, 33, of Carlton Terrace, was sentenced to 24 months in prison when he appeared before magistrates.

He was charged with the theft of unknown household items and a scarf to the value of £4 from Poundland in Bank Street, Teignmouth on November 9.

A further charge dated from October 28 when he stole more items from Poundland and two days earlier, on October 26, he stole household items from the same shop.

At WHSmiths in Teignmouth, on November 11, he stole numerous Lottery scratchcards, also of an unknown value.

He was also charged with criminal damage at Torquay police station on November 18 when he damaged leg restraints, valued at £7.95.

Norman had pleaded guilty to all the offences at a previous court hearing.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

Following the report, magistrates imposed the jail sentence.
