NEWTON Abbot could be home to a six-screen cinema as Scott Cinemas have withdrawn its interest from operating the proposed four screen cinema.

Arc Cinema have since stepped in and shown interest in operating the proposed new cinema in the town, however this interest is for a six screen rather than a four screen cinema.

Leader of the South Devon Alliance, Cllr Richard Daws, said: 'I sort of despair when I get passed information about the cultural plans for Newton Abbot, and nobody at the council has managed to discuss any of them with us.

'I am really not sure what planet Teignbridge District Council are on carrying on with this folly which is wasting taxpayer money and looks likely to either lose the £9.2m Future High Street Fund grant or create a white elephant.'
