Harvest season is upon us and there’s a a focus on local food and produce this weekend. There are also opportunities to tour local churches, find out about the environment and even catch a quirky cricket match.

Here are some of the best events taking place in Teignbridge this weekend (Saturday September 13 and Sunday September 14).

Saturday September 13

Ashburton Food Festival

Ashburton town centre

10am-5pm

Meet local food and drink producers and community groups in this celebration of local produce. More than 40 stalls, music, workshops and plenty of tasty titbits to sample.

FREE although some workshops may incur a cost.

Devon Historic Churches Day

Celebrate some of our most historic landmarks on Devon Historic Churches Day. Many places of worship will be offering guided tours, talks and some are even opening up their church towers. Highlights include a celebration of the recent VE Day and VJ Day 80th anniversaries at St Michael’s in Kingsteignton and an arts and crafts trail to raise money for the restoration of the bells in St Peter and St Paul in Broadhempston.

Talk by Friends of River Teign

Local environmentalist and founder of the Friends of the River Teign group Stuart Reynolds talks about the group and its contribution to the local environment.

Hennock Garden Show and Craft Festival

Hennock Village Hall and St Mary’s Church

1pm-5pm on Saturday September 13 and 11am-4.30pm on Sunday September 14

Marvel at the talents of Hennock villagers with exhibits of flowers, vegetables, craft and produce. There’s also a chance to discover the history of the valley’s mining with an exhibition from the Teign Valley History Group.

Lustleigh VJ Day Anniversary Cricket Match

Wreylands Cricket Field, Lustleigh TQ13 9TJ

A re-enactment of the women v men match played 80 years ago to celebrate VJ Day where the men dressed as women and the women dressed as men.

Proms in the Park

Bitton Park, Teignmouth TQ14 9DF

Bring a picnic and blanket and enjoy the BBC’s last night of the Proms in Teignmouth’s Bitton Park.

FREE – but pre-booking tickets is advised.

Film screening and curry night

Alice Cross Centre, Teignmouth TQ14

6:30pm – 9pm

A powerful evening of food, film and conversation with the screening of ‘#CLIMATESCAM’, a documentary by Cornwall Climate Care that explores the consequences of misinformation about climate.

The evening starts with a curry supper, followed by the screening of the film and then a group discussion about the themes it raises.

Free entry for film only, but pre-booking required. Curry is £15.

Sunday September 14

Green Goose Food Festival

Stokeinteignhead Village Hall, TQ12 4QB

11am-4pm

A celebration of food and farming in the community with local food and produce stalls, games and lucky dip, crafts, cake, raffle and bar. Raising money to support the Stokeinteignhead Community Shop.
