A FREEDOM of Information (FOI) request has revealed the five speed cameras that have caught the most motorists in the South West and it’s a South Devon camera that tops the list.

Replacing an older Gatso camera, the state-of the art camera on the A385 Ashburton Road, near Totnes, topped the list.

Between January 1, 2024 and April 23, 2025, the camera activated 8974 times, the FOI shows.

The A385 has had problems with collisions and speeding vehicles, prompting numerous complaints to local councils and the police from residents.

Another camera in Devon came second.

The camera on the B3214 Old Laira Road, Plymouth, activated 8769 times in the same time period.

The other cameras were the A39 Tregolls Road, Truro, at 7604; the A386 Alma Road, Plymouth, at 4654 and the A30 Roseworthy Dip, Cornwall, at 4520.
