THE Spirit of Teignmouth Visitor Centre attracted almost 1,000 people through its doors in the first week. Visitors have been intrigued by skipper Simon Chalk's plans to circumnavigate the globe against prevailing conditions.
Kingsbridge College was the first school party to visit the centre on The Den. Students have been working with the Spirit of Teignmouth team for the past few months by combining their science classes with the project. Mr Chalk gave the youngsters a personal tour of the site. They got to experience life in the cabin of the 68ft trimaran, survival in a life raft and what it is like to have 25 knots of wind blowing in their faces. Mr Chalk said: 'It is great to have had our first school group in. One of the main aims of the project is to encourage the next generation to seek and achieve their own dreams and getting school groups into the centre, explaining the project to them and allowing them to get involved is the first step.' Other school groups are being invited to take part. Contact the team at info@spirit-of-teignmouth .com to arrange a visit.
