District councillors have decided to 'choose life' and approved plans for a controversial sports pavilion in Bishopsteignton despite strong local opposition, writes Nigel Canham.
The scheme for Michaels Field had attracted complaints from the parish council and 57 residents who had written letters of objection.
A petition circulated through the village was signed by 199 people who felt the level of public consultation had been insufficient.
MP Anne Marie Morris had called for a decision to be deferred until such time as residents had been given the chance to discuss the plans more fully.
But on Monday members of Teignbridge Council's development control committee decided it was time for action.
