FEARS that the weather might scupper the Teignmouth St George's Festival proved unfounded.

It went ahead at the weekend despite the wind and the rain. Organiser Mike Jackman, chairman of the Teignmouth Traders' Association, declared it a huge success.

'There was a call from some quarters for it to be cancelled on health and safety grounds because of the weather forecast. But there is too much red tape around these days, and we took the decision that it should go ahead.
