A TEENAGER has been arrested after a police pursuit ended when the vehicle he was driving crashed into a lamppost.

Officers spotted the vehicle being driven at speed and in a dangerous manner on St Marychurch Road shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 23.

A pursuit followed before the vehicle collided with a lamppost and walking rail.

The driver - a local 19-year-old man - was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink or drugs, and failing to provide a breath specimen.

He was later de-arrested and taken to hospital for treatment to a hand injury.

Police say enquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
