TEIGNMOUTH received some unwelcome ‘doomsday’ publicity in national newspapers this week.
The resort was singled out in a full page piece in the Sunday Telegraph as one of many which could fall foul of the new, tougher EU bathing water regulations. Other national publications followed suit.
The articles highlighted the fate of towns that fail to meet the minimum standard – compulsory notices erected along the seafront advising that the beach is unfit for swimming.
That would have a killer impact on the tourist trade, with many potential holidaymakers deciding to give Teignmouth a miss.
