A NEW 600-pupil school could be open in Newton Abbot within two years.

The Steiner Academy South Hams project started earlier this year with a view to creating a school in the Totnes area.

But it has moved across the border into Teignbridge and changed its name after discovering huge interest here.

Of the 400 families to have registered an interest so far, more than half are from the district.

Project organisers have promised a different approach to education, such as not teaching literacy until the age of six, and want to cater for children aged four to 16.
