TEIGNMOUTH sailors heard all about lighthouses from a man who should know.

Lighthouse keeper Gordon Partridge worked in 22 lighthouses for 22 years, and gave a talk to members and guests of the Teign Corinthian Yacht Club.

His stations included the Eddystone, Wolf Rock, the Needles, and Bishop rock, and he was the last keeper to leave the Casquets before automation.

Mr Partridge described the drama of relieving isolated stations like Bishops Rock, where he was hoisted between the lighthouse and the supply boat on a rope suspended from the top of the lighthouse.
