YOUNG farmers ploughed acres of fields around the clock for charity last weekend.
Ten Newton Abbot Young Farmers ploughed 110 acres during a 24-hour ‘ploughathon’ for Devon Air Ambulance.
Josh Gale, chairman of the group, organised the event, which included ploughing his family’s fields at Teigngrace and neighbouring farms.
He said: ‘It went well. We got 110 acres ploughed in 24 hours and there was no major breakdown
‘We managed to swap around a bit but some of us stayed up for the full 24 hours.
‘Some of the ploughing was not too special, especially around 3am when we could only see as far as the tractor lights!’
Sponsorship money is still coming in. The group received £200 for their efforts from Mole Valley Farmers, and charged the farmers £10 per acre and a minimum donation.
Josh added: ‘All the tractors and plough were donated to us – Masons Kings gave us the John Deere; MST the Massey Ferguson; and Dayment and Skelton the Case tractor. Halse of Honiton gave us the plough.
‘We’re hoping to have raised more than £1,300.’
