STUDENTS from Teignmouth Community College were getting breathless this week.
Eighteen of them from Year 8 took part in a series of fun activities aimed at giving the heart and lungs a good workout.
The Let's Get Active programme was held at the Teignmouth Fire Station, the Den and Haldon Forest Park, and was part of a Teignbridge lifeskills project.
'Everybody has been having a lot of fun getting out of breath and trying new activities, said Fiona Goodchild, of Devon Schools Sports Partnership.
'As well as cycling, street surfing, rowing and martial arts, we have also been using pedometers and carrying out step tests to measure our improvement.'
The project was aimed aimed at youngsters who would benefit from a wide range of physical activities, to promote long term health benefits.
Ben Hosford, from Teignbridge Council, said: 'Research shows that increasing levels of physical activity has significant health benefits. We are grateful to the young people who have taken part for getting stuck in and telling us how we can shape the project in the future.'
The scheme is a partnership between the college, Teignbridge, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and the schools partnership.
