EXCITEMENT levels were running high as Dawlish Community College students picked up their GCSE results on Thursday. Collective achievements this year in terms of A*-C grades were the best in the college's history. The enthusiastic atmosphere was punctuated with loud chatter, much relieved laughter and sharing of news. Mobile phones were in use and a number of parents arrived with their children to see their results. Most students were very pleased to find they had achieved what was needed to proceed to the next step in their education or training. Outgoing principal Roger Kirksaid: 'All students and staff are to be congratulated on their success and we look forward to the continued progress of these students. 'The headline A*-C rate at 61 percent is the best ever achieved by the college and the Value Added Tables produced by Devon County later in the year will show the true extent of students' achievements.' The collective results are as follows: 100 percent of eligible candidates entered the exams, 98 percent achieved one or more A*-G, 92 percent achieved five or more A*-G, 84 percent achieved one or more A*-C and 61 percent achieved five or more A*-C.
