CHARITIES, community groups, clubs and individuals benefited from this year’s Kingskerswell Summer Moon festival to the tune of £10,000.

A host of good causes, large and small, were handed donations from festival organisers at a special event at Kingskerswell parish church.

Festival spokesman Tony Johnson explained: ‘The festival is a proper community event, we have a wonderful time and everyone mucks in.

‘But it is quite an emotional and moving time when we meet to hand out the money to these fantastic charities and great causes.

‘It is lovely to see these wonderful volunteers and feel we have done our bit to help.’

Among the recipients this year were Children’s Hospice South West, Rowcroft Hospice and Devon Freenwheelers, along with other smaller, local charities.

They include Share and Care which helps the elderly and provides a monthly lunch, Guides and Brownies, street pastors, Safebreaks, which runs clubs and respite for families with disabled children as well as one individual whose child is deaf and blind.

In the nine years the popular beer and music festival has been running, more than £100,000 has been raised for local charities and good causes.

Trustees consider applications after the event and distribute the cash in the autumn.

Tony added that planning has already started for next summer’s festival.
