THE sun shone for the residents of Kingsteignton who took part in this year’s ‘Kingsteignton in Bloom’ competition, writes Shirley Simmons.

The presentation of awards and cups by Cllr Ron Peart and competition organiser Cllr Alex Brotherton, took place in the garden at the Old Rydon Inn.

First prize winners received a cup, certificate and a garden centre voucher, second and third place entrants received certificates and garden centre vouchers. Following the presentation, a buffet was enjoyed by all who attended.

The judging of the floral displays and vegetable gardens took place on an extremely hot day in July.

Kingsteignton Town Council were extremely pleased with the increased amount of entries from which they have received in past years.

Some of these were from residents who had entered in previous years, as well as several newcomers.

It is hoped that this competition will continue to grow as more and more people have taken up gardening throughout the past year or so during lockdown.

A council spokesperson said: ‘The gardens visited are truly remarkable and it is an honour to have been able to visit them.

‘Kingsteignton Town Council would like to thank everybody who took part in this year’s competition and hope that more residents and trade entries will be received next year.’

Entry forms will be available from May 2022 from Kingsteignton Town Council offices or website.
