Three suspected burglars have been arrested in Shaldon after a dramatic incident early on Saturday morning (August 15).

Residents described seeing four men run off from a car that had come to a halt at the junction of Bridge Road, Fore Street and Ringmore Street, at about 6.45am.

Police attended with dogs and spoke to residents who had seen the car’s occupants running through nearby gardens.

They detained three men nearby.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that a 19-year-old man from Torquay was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, burglary and theft.

A 16-year-old boy from Paignton was arrested on suspicion of two burglaries and an attempted robbery.

A 19-year-old man from Paignton was arrested on suspicion of two thefts of a motor vehicle, two burglaries, attempted robbery and assault.

A police spokesman said: “We were made aware following the theft of a vehicle from a property in Launceston in the early hours of 15 August.

“The vehicle left the scene in convoy and was located unoccupied a short time later in Crediton.

“Following enquiries a second vehicle that was travelling with the stolen vehicle was forcibly stopped by officers in Shaldon.

“The vehicle's occupants then fled.

“With the assistance of members of the public, officers made three arrests.

“All three suspects have been released on police bail while enquiries continue.”
