THEIR march may not have been on the scale of some of the marches for climate justice, but what members of Sustainable Bishop lacked in numbers they certainly made up for in spirit.

The group were out last Saturday marching through Bishopsteignton in solidarity with other global marches that were taking place as the world’s leaders met in Glasgow for the COP26 summit.

‘We believe that action can be taken from grass roots and can involve us all even in smaller communities,’ said the group’s chairman and founding member Kate Yeo.

‘Climate change and environmental destruction is not someone else’s problem, we all have the means to do something about it.

‘Sustainable Bishop works on many projects which all aim to reduce our carbon footprint and improve our local environment.

‘The march was a great way of bringing like minded people together and ultimately will make the movement stronger. We even had positive action on our march as we picked up litter as we went.’

Sustainable Bishop started around nine years ago with a Give It Away Day, sustainable suppers, wildlife walks and talks, and research into sustainable solutions for transport.

The group was relaunched in 2019 when it became clear that the ongoing climate crises requires action now.
