THE driver of a BMW 323i escaped with minor injuries when the vehicle hit the side of the road on the A382 between Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead around 6.20pm on Wednesday.

A fire crew from Bovey Tracey made the vehicle and surrounding area safe and highways workmen were called to clear the road.

A police spokesman said it appeared the driver of the BMW had swerved to avoid a deer.
