MOTORISTS given parking tickets while attending the Remembrance Day service on Teignmouth seafront will be treated 'sympathetically' if they appeal.

That was the message given at a town council meeting on Tuesday when parking was discussed again.

There is particular confusion on Sundays when 'free parking' is advertised, but many motorists do not realise it applies only to Teignbridge Council car parks, not to street parking, which is controlled by the county council.

Street parking is free on Sundays in Newton Abbot, but the county refuses to allow it in Teignmouth and Dawlish.
